As the first Black woman to chair the Minority Corporate Counsel Association board of directors, Wanji Walcott faces what many have called a watershed moment for diversity, equity and inclusion in the legal industry, as the pandemic’s most recent surge leaves remote workers in limbo and many attorneys worry about the effect this will have on already-underrepresented communities in the legal sphere.

Walcott, who is general counsel for Discover Financial Services, was named chair of the board of directors at the Minority Corporate Counsel Association in July. Corporate Counsel recently caught up with Walcott to discuss these trends, and possible solutions that can help the legal community continue and accelerate progress.
