Plaintiffs firms preparing for a talcum powder trial next month against Johnson & Johnson filed an emergency motion Tuesday to prevent the company’s potential bankruptcy filing, which would halt their lawsuit and potentially that of tens of thousands of other cases.

Four law firms filed an emergency motion for a temporary restraining order and permanent injunction, and a petition in equity, before Missouri’s 22nd Judicial Circuit Court in St. Louis, on behalf of three women who are set to go to trial Sept. 7, claiming they got ovarian cancer from Johnson & Johnson talcum powder products.
