Attorney Ben Crump has teamed up once again with New York’s Napoli Shkolnik, this time suing Johnson & Johnson for marketing its baby powder to Black women, many of whom died of ovarian cancer.
Crump and Napoli Shkolnik’s Paul Napoli represent the National Council of Negro Women, which filed the lawsuit Tuesday in New Jersey’s Atlantic County Superior Court. At a press conference Tuesday, Crump said Johnson & Johnson specifically began targeted advertising to Black women in the 1990s after sales of its baby powder, which contained talcum powder with asbestos, began to plummet amid health concerns.
