When Morgan Stanley’s top lawyer last week told outside counsel they should get back to the office, it captured attention across the legal industry. But his stance on remote work is not universal among legal department leaders.

On Friday, a letter from Morgan Stanley chief legal officer Eric Grossman was made public showing that he was asking his law firms to return to the office. In the letter, he said Zoom accommodations would not be made available for important meetings between the legal department and outside counsel. He said the best work is done when attorneys can collaborate in the office.
