A new trend in the ever-changing U.S. real estate market is the rise in homeownership by single women, according to a new report from DeedClaim, an online deed preparation service.

Women are taking advantage of lower mortgage rates to buy home they can live in or rent out to others. In the fourth quarter, their homebuying increased by 8.7% year over year, the report said, citing an article in The Guardian.

To identify the best places for single female homeownership, DeedClaim analyzed 50 major cities around the country against nine ranking factors, such as community, affordability, safety, opportunities for employment, dating and socialization, with data gathered from the U.S. Census, Citi-data.com, Insurance.com and Google Trends.

Researchers assigned weights to each factor based on their significance to a single female homeowner, then calculated the sum of the nine weighted factors to arrive at an overall city score for each city. The highest possible city score was 50.
