While the last year has been punctuated by crises, Uber’s legal team learned to navigate turbulent circumstances with grace long ago.
When Tony West arrived at Uber Technologies in 2017, the company—and its legal department, which the new CLO was tasked with rebuilding at the time—were in crisis mode. It was what West describes as a “challenging time,” as he started from scratch while the company faced legal backlash over surveillance practices.
