What You Need to Know

  • Rhoades is an outspoken advocate of fiduciary standards for investment advice.
  • The move provides a succession plan for Rhoades' financial planning clients.
  • His new role will combine financial advising, policy advocacy and content creation.

Finance professor and fiduciary law expert Ron Rhoades has joined ARGI Financial Group at its Bowling Green, Kentucky, location as a financial advisor and content specialist with its RIA business, ARGI Investment Services.

The Louisville, Kentucky-based personal and business financial advisory firm provides comprehensive financial planning and investment management through ARGI Investment Services, as well as tax planning through ARGI CPAs and Tax Advisors and SCA CPAs and Advisors, insurance solutions through Advisor Insurance Solutions, and business services through ARGI Business Services.

In addition to Bowling Green and Louisville, ARGI has offices in Bardstown, Elizabethtown, Lexington and Paducah, Kentucky; Cincinnati; Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Indianapolis.

Rhoades was approached by ARGI around the start of this year “after word came that he was thinking about his own succession plan,” according to Neil Quinlan, president of ARGI.

“Our firm checked off several boxes for Dr. Rhoades: a succession plan for his financial planning practice, an RIA with a fiduciary standard to their clients, freedom to create intentional and educational content, as well as the ability to continue to push legislation and advocate at the governmental level,” he said in a statement.

“We met Ron about five years ago, and we were very impressed,” Quinlan said on Friday. “His years as an educator, industry professional and thought leader are inspiring, not to mention his warm and welcoming demeanor. We quickly discovered our shared vision and beliefs on financial advising and servicing clients. We’re thrilled that he has decided to join the ARGI team, and look forward to pushing the company to new levels.”

The addition of Rhoades represents “another valued asset of academia to the ARGI team,” according to Joe Reeves, ARGI CEO.

Rhoades has been serving as an associate professor of finance at Western Kentucky University and director of its personal financial planning program, positions he will keep for his tenure at the university, ARGI said Thursday.

Outside of teaching, Rhoades is an outspoken advocate of fiduciary standards for investment and financial advice, and he frequently visits policymakers on Capitol Hill, the Securities and Exchange Commission and U.S. Department of Labor.

He is a member of the Florida Bar and has practiced as an estate planning attorney. He also dedicates much of his time to creating financial content. He has published several books on financial planning, estate planning and investment topics, and has written hundreds of articles and blog posts on the topics.
