YOUTH OF TODAY - A little over a year ago, one of the most pressing issues for law firm leaders was figuring out how to attract and retain talented millennial lawyers. Then the pandemic hit and the question of how to connect with the younger generation of attorneys was forced to get in a long line behind seemingly more pressing matters like how to transition to remote work on a dime and how to remain profitable amid an economic downturn. But diverting their attention from figuring out what makes millennials tick could turn out to be a crucial miscalculation for many firms because there’s another generation of legal talent coming up behind them—and they’re like a millennial super strain. As Law.com’s Dylan Jackson reports, Gen Z law students appear to be picking up the torch of their millennial predecessors in advocating for flexibility and purpose in their work, according to a new survey by Major, Lindsey & Africa.“There is a shift between millennials and Gen Z,” said Nathan Peart, managing director of MLA’s associate practice group. “They hold the extreme version of millennial views.”
