New York University law professor Deborah Archer has been elected as the president of the American Civil Liberties Union.
Archer, who teaches criminal law and is the director of the law school’s Civil Rights Clinic, becomes the first Black president in the ACLU’s 101-year history. As president of the ACLU’s National Board of Directors, She will lead the 69-member group that sets organization and civil rights policies and oversees its finances and relationships with affiliate groups. ACLU Executive Director Anthony Romero handles the group’s day-to-day operations.
