Dentons-Office-Sign

Dentons has opened a new office in Hainan, China, a major island province that has been earmarked by the Chinese government to become China’s first free trade port.

The new office in Sanya will focus on a range of commercial activities including construction, real estate, bankruptcy and insolvency, as well as dispute resolution.

“Our new office will be uniquely positioned to connect clients to inbound and outbound business opportunities, as well as be a center for innovation in the China region,” said Jiangtao Ma, chief executive officer of Dentons China in a statement.

“It will also serve as a base for piloting new training programs and innovative initiatives as we continue to advance our mission to always be the law firm of the future.”

Dubbed “China’s Hawaii,” Hainan is a free-trade zone with more business-friendly policies than other parts of the country. In June, the Chinese government released a master plan for developing Hainan into a globally-recognized free trade port by the middle of this century, which will help the island province surpass both Hong Kong and Singapore to become the largest free-trade port in the region in both size and population.
