Attorney General William Barr could assume at least nominal control of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York for a few days before the presidential inauguration in January, should Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden win the White House.

The scenario, a quirk of Audrey Strauss’ appointment as acting Manhattan U.S. attorney in June, would kick in Jan. 16, at the end of her 210-day temporary term under the Federal Vacancies Reform Act.
