President Donald Trump was personally briefed by a defense lawyer for Michael Flynn on the former national security adviser’s campaign to dismiss a charge that he lied to the FBI about his past contacts with the Russian ambassador to the United States.

At a court hearing Tuesday, Flynn’s lawyer Sidney Powell disclosed under questioning from U.S. District Judge Emmet Sullivan of the District of Columbia that she met “in person” with Trump and asked him not to pardon Flynn. Powell said the meeting came “well after” the Justice Department moved in May to drop the prosecution of Flynn, who twice pleaded guilty to lying to the FBI.
