Government attorneys often come to private practice without a recent book of business, but that hurdle hasn’t dissuaded several firms from picking up our former public servants. 

Lowenstein Sandler announced it added Matthew Platkin, former chief counsel to New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, on Sept. 17. Platkin will be a partner in the firm’s white-collar criminal defense and business litigation group when he joins the firm in October, when his tenure at his current post is up. The firm said that during his time in the Murphy administration, Platkin oversaw the drafting of over 80 executive and administrative orders related to the state’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Given that New Jersey has managed to secure one of the lowest transmission rates in the nation after an initial outbreak, it’s safe to say the job was done well.
