Jasmine Caruthers had mixed feelings when attorneys representing the family of Breonna Taylor announced this week that they had reached a $12 million settlement in their wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Louisville.
Caruthers, a 2L at the University of South Carolina School of Law, spent the summer researching the use of no-knock warrants across the country and identifying the outcomes of other civil cases involving such warrants on behalf of the Taylor family’s legal team, alongside classmate A.C. Parham and professor Colin Miller. Taylor, a 26-year-old emergency medical technician, was killed by Louisville police March 13 during a botched drug raid.
