The fourth Legal Trends Report survey by legal software company Clio found that overall new matter generation is mostly back to pre-pandemic levels and many larger legal markets are continuing to trend up in the same category. But more than half of surveyed respondents still have concerns about the future financial success of their firms, layoffs remain high, and apparently over one-third of U.S. consumers believe law firms are not currently providing legal services due to the pandemic.
The survey, conducted between July 13 and 22 with 635 legal professionals and between July 13 and 14 with around 1,000 consumer in the U.S. general population using anonymized data, showed the steady improvement in real estate and wills and estates compared to April, while intellectual property work is actually up over 20% compared to a Jan. baseline.
