Taking the bar exam is stressful enough. But the implementation of facial recognition technology in Michigan’s and California’s bar exam has added another layer of anxiety as accuracy, fairness and privacy concerns creep into test takers’ minds.

The botched launch of Michigan’s online bar exam, which used ExamSoft software to collect biometric data to verify identities and monitor potential cheating, included some of the 700 bar examinees being temporarily locked out of the test.
