Harris is an Ottawa, Canada-based software company that was founded in 1976.

Connecture is a Milwaukee-based company that has been running private and public health insurance distribution systems since 1999.

The company now emphasizes its role as the provider of a popular Medicare shopping and enrollment system.

The company has relationships with nine of the 10 biggest U.S. health insurers and about 30 national and regional field marketing offices. It has about 4,300 plans on its system, and it took in about 715,000 Medicare enrollments in the past year, according to Connecture.

Harris says Connecture’s systems will complement Harris’s own health care information technology systems.

“Harris will continue to develop, sell, implement and support Connecture’s applications,’” Harris says in the deal completion announcement.

Connecture could be poised to do especially well this year, because the U.S. government’s official Medicare Plan Finder has been having this year.

Connecture’s own Medicare enrollment system is one of the major alternatives to the Medicare Plan Finder.
