The National Law Journal will host its 2019 Legal Awards honoring the 2019 D.C. Rising Stars, Litigation Departments of the Year and other stellar law firms and lawyers on Oct. 30 at The Mayflower Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Lisa Helem, editor-in-chief of The National Law Journal magazine.

This year’s honorees will include:

Our 2019 D.C. Rising Stars. Our 40 honorees, who are 40 and under, represent a cross section of practice areas—from appellate to bankruptcy to international trade. They’ve excelled on some of the biggest stages. This fall, they’ve also shared their insights on such key practice topics as business development and professional growth in our new “On the Rise: Voices from Young Lawyers” series.

Our 2019 Winning Litigators: These lawyers took on high-stakes matters and won. Their victories for their clients included a $2.06 billion verdict for plaintiffs that developed cancer after pesticide exposure, defense of a $150 million class action filed against a storage company and an historic $22.35 million defamation judgment.

Our 2019 Pro Bono Hot List: These lawyers have used their legal expertise to take on some of the biggest issues of our time. Their work included advocating for the Sixth Amendment rights of a man on death row, securing the largest civil single-plaintiff human trafficking award in U.S. history and going to bat for children in New York and New Mexico.

Our 2019 D.C. Litigation Departments of the Year: Three stellar firms take top honors in general litigation. And other firms stood above their peers in labor and employment, insurance, intellectual property, products liability/mass torts and white collar.

Our 2018 and 2019 Appellate Hot Lists: We honor an outstanding collection of lawyers and law firms that won key matters before the U.S. Supreme Court and federal courts of appeal that tackled everything from religious freedom to the music of the mighty Marvin Gaye. (Note that the 2019 list, which will be released in our November magazine, will be published online just ahead of the NLJ Legal Awards. Honorees have been notified.)

Our 2019 Washington Legal Departments of the Year: We honor the legal departments of an international financial institution, and two companies—one specializing in defense and aviation and one that focuses on event management software for groundbreaking work.
