Throwback burger purveyor Shake Shack will add a hot chicken sandwich to its menu line up starting this summer and for an undetermined amount of time. According to a release, the Hot Chick’n is a “crispy chicken breast dusted with a guajillo and cayenne pepper blend and topped with slaw and pickles.” It will be available at Shake Shack locations nationwide (except at airport, stadium, and ballpark outlets) beginning August 1.

This is Shake Shack’s second chicken offering. Its first, Chick’n Shack, landed on menus in 2015 after much speculation, and almost immediately became one of the chain’s top three bestsellers; it went nationwide in 2016. Earlier this year the burger company restaurateur Danny Meyer founded in 2004 teased fans by putting a recipe for chicken tenders in its new cookbook in a section labeled “the Taste of Things to Come.”

“We’ve been playing around with a spicy version of our Chick’n Shack for some time now,” Shake Shack culinary director Mark Rosati noted in the release. A recipe for a spicy chicken sandwich is also included in the Shack’s new book.

The Hot Chick’n is made with a chicken breast “slow-cooked in a creamy buttermilk marinade,” battered, dredged in seasoned flour, and fried. In addition to the guajillo and cayenne pepper blend, the chicken is also topped with a slaw made with Louisiana hot sauce and kosher dill pickles.

For an early taste, fans can order the sandwich via Shake Shack’s app beginning on July 28.
