Star Alliance Route List: Transpacific

a map of the world with different colored lines

A while back I started compiling collections of long-haul routes flown by carriers in the different alliances. The main goal was to make it a bit easier to handle award search planning as those long-haul routes are often the hardest to figure out. I took a bit of a break – far too long, really, but I’m back now with another installment: Star Alliance trans-Pacific flights. There are only 72 that I came up with in my first pass (I’m planning ahead for United’s announced 2014 changes in this list) though I’m sure someone will find something I missed and let me know.

All maps herein sourced from the always incredible gcmap.com.

Interesting, of the 72 route/airline pairs there is ~20% overlap; only 58 of the actual routes are unique. And, with three carriers (UA, OZ, SQ) offering service the SFO-ICN route and LAX-NRT (SQ, UA, NH) tie for being flown by the most different airlines. Narita has the most different destinations served with 13; SFO is second with 10.

Lest anyone think there isn’t a bit more to the compilation of this data, let me put that idea to rest right now. I’ve added the info here into the “Anywhere Search” option on my Wandering Aramean Travel Tools site. Read more about it here. Log in to it (assuming you’re a First Class member) here.

I’ve ignored HNL-GUM for now; I’m not really sure how it should fit in the list. Thoughts??

So, did I miss any??

I'm Seth, also known as the Wandering Aramean. I was bit by the travel bug 30 years ago and there's no sign of a cure. I fly ~200,000 miles annually; these are my stories. You can connect with me on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

  1. Seth — Great stuff — these really help. Just 2 adds — SQ NRT-LAX — I’m pretty sure SQ still flies this, I flew it back in May on the A380… Also I think TG694/5 KIX-LAX may still be active, but it seems to be an on-again-off-again type thing with Thai (was, I think, operated by a 2-class 77W)

    1. Got the SQ route. I don’t see the TG route on the timetables this fall or next spring. If it shows up again I can add it but I don’t see it right now.

    1. Wilson: There are links at the top of the page, below the logo, called Long-Haul Routes. The TATL routes (albeit old and in need of updates) are in there. I’ll add these posts to that list as well in the next couple days.

  2. I was going to say you missed the SQ21/22 nonstop flight between EWR and SIN but the last flight from EWR probably just landed in SIN. Did you ever go on that flight? If so, how was it?

  3. I coulda sworn that UA flew IAD-PVG direct. I guess not. But great visualization! Love it.

  4. You left out US Air for the transpacific flights. Lucky @One Mile at a Time, said there were loads of flights from SFO to Asia which can accrue 15,000 miles each and they can be had for under $1,200 per ticket and usually you can do much better than that. Why did you leave out US Air?

  5. @ Old Flyer – US has no trans pacific flights EVER, not to mention US doesn’t even have 5th freedom right to fly to Asia (other than the only one short lived ex-HP HNL-NGO which gave up more than 20 years ago). Flights to Asia booking on US would only be codeshare with UA or any other *A partners.

  6. It depends on your definition of “transpacific,” but flights from Asia to Australia/NZ crosses most of the Pacific and are missing from your list.
