United adds EVA award availability online

Update 3 (7:50am EDT 19 July): And we’re back! The functionality reappeared overnight last night.

Update 2 (7:15am EDT 3 July): And now United has confirmed that they’ve pulled the inventory due to “a small issue with a limited number of BR awards since launch.” They expect it back in ~10-14 days. Phone bookings are still possible.

Update (10:50pm EDT 2 July): Well, that didn’t last long. The inventory is off the site now. Hopefully back soon.

It took a few days after EVA officially joined Star Alliance but United Airlines now has EVA inventory available online, integrated with the other partners they allow searching for.

This is great news for a whole bunch of reasons, mostly related to the part where United’s engine is faster than ANA‘s, while ANA is slightly more complete in terms of partners available. This brings United one step closer. It also means award search alerts for EVA-operated flights can be handled more easily, too.

This doesn’t excuse the pain in the ass which is multi-city searches on the United site, functionality which has become notably worse in recent months, but it is definitely a nice improvement to see.

H/T to Stephan for noticing it this afternoon and sharing the good news.

  1. My little girl would love to fly on the Hello Kitty plane, but I’m pretty sure they rotate it around. That would suck to fly all the way over there with her, just to not get on the Hello Kitty plane.

  2. Does JFK – TPE have the lie flat business class seating? Seatguru seems to not be updated on this route.
