Distraught Olesya Shemyakova is still waiting to get her cash back after making the expensive mistake at the New Point kebab shop in Dietikon, near Zurich, Switzerland.

The 37-year-old Russian woman, who lives in the French city of Mulhouse, ordered some drinks and a piece of chocolate cake for her son, a colleague and herself when she was visiting the town in German-speaking Switzerland.

When she was presented with the £17.40 bill she asked if she could pay by card.

Ms Shemyakova said: "I entered my PIN code but it did not work. Then I entered it a second time and then it functioned.

"I assumed that I paid £17.40 that was also stated on my receipt."

But two weeks later she got a nasty surprise when she saw that £5,666 had been deducted from her account - £17.40 for the food and drinks plus a massive £5,650 gratuity.

Ms Shemyakova immediately spotted the tip tallied with her credit card PIN and realised exactly what had gone wrong.

As the Russian national did not speak any German, she didn't realise she had first been asked to enter her PIN code.

She then needed to enter the amount she wanted to pay, which leaves customers the chance to add an amount to the total to leave as a tip.

Instead of entering the correct amount she mistakenly entered her PIN again.

Since the mistake the unemployed mother has been trying in vain to get her money back but said she did not get much help from the kebab shop or her credit card company.

Kebab shop boss Cengiz Gokduman however said that Ms Shemyakova will get her money back soon.

He said: "I can promise that the customer will get her money back."
