Roof of Minnesota State Fair cattle barn partially collapses

One of 35 Minnesota livestock buildings damaged by heavy snow in recent weeks

The roof of the cattle barn at the Minnesota State Fairgrounds is the latest casualty of heavy snow.

The nearly 100-year old building used to house more than 1,000 animals was damaged Tuesday by a mixture of rain and snow that weighed on a 40 to 50-foot section of the roof until it caved in.

The Minnesota State Fair says some windows were also damaged, but the rest of the building remains structurally sound.

Earlier this week, Minnesota Milk executive director Lucas Sjostrum told Brownfield at least 35 livestock buildings across Minnesota suffered roof collapses because of snow.  He says most of the damage has occurred since late February.
