Iowa farmer nears finish line on planting

The 2023 planting season is winding down for an eastern Iowa farmer.

Dave Walton raises corn and soybeans near Wilton along the Mississippi River.

“We’ve got about a day and a half of soybeans to plant,” he said. “All of the corn is in the ground, but nothing is out yet.”

He tells Brownfield soil conditions have been favorable.

“I think this is probably one of the better years we’ve had as far as how I felt the seed went into the ground,” Walton said. “The planter worked perfect and the dry soils made for great seed beds.”

Walton says some timely rains are needed as the growing season continues.
