Hartzler says dairy win in USMCA is “huge”

Missouri Congresswoman Vicky Hartzler says Canada’s willingness to open its dairy markets to the U.S. is a big deal, “For them to eliminate the class 6 and 7 category, plus to increase the quotas for our dairy farmers to be able to sell our milk products into Canada was huge.”

Hartzler expects the new trade deal between Canada and Mexico to be approved by Congress this year, “I’m very pleased that we’re going to get this settled and done by the end of the year and have that certainty. And, already we’re seeing markets starting to respond positively to this news.”

Hartzler cites Canada’s previous 241% tariff on America’s fluid milk compared to no U.S. tariff on Canadian milk. Mexico and Canada will have to ratify the agreements in their respective countries.
