Video shows brawl at Upstate NY mall on Christmas Eve; police investigating

Albany mall fight

This Twitter video still shows a brawl inside the Beef Jerky Outlet store inside Crossgates Mall in Albany, N.Y., on Tuesday, Dec. 24, 2019.

Police are investigating a viral video showing a brawl at a shopping mall in Upstate New York.

A 24-second clip posted on social media shows close to a dozen people fighting inside a Beef Jerky Outlet store at the Crossgates Mall near Albany on Christmas Eve. Punches are thrown, wall displays are knocked down, and a table is overturned.

It’s unclear if any customers were in the store, but two employees appear to attempt to break up the melee. "Out of the store, out of the store!” one is heard yelling.

The video, originally posted by Ryan Clemons on Twitter as @GlockRivers, has been shared thousands of times and viewed more than 2.5 million times since Tuesday afternoon.

“Getting into the holiday spirit,” Barstool Sports joked on Christmas Day.

Clemons told The Times-Union that the beef appeared to have started outside another store in the mall shortly before escalating at The Beef Jerky Outlet. He said the fight ended about 10 seconds after he stopped filming and the group ran off as mall security guards called for help.

The Guilderland Police Department is investigating the incident, Deputy Chief Curtis Cox told WTEN. Cox said the GPD’s mall subdivision responded to the scene quickly but were not in the area of the mall when the fight started.

It’s unclear how much damage was caused in the incident, and whether or not anyone was injured.

Crossgates Mall was closed Wednesday for the Christmas holiday, but the movie theater Regal Cinemas remained open.
