What a cute, fun little book this is. Bright, colourful and cheery, it is the perfect gift for baby (and Daddy!!) Some sound advice is given to baby on how to help Daddy understand change time, feeding, baths and playing...

The illustrations are fun and quirky - I enjoyed each and every page in that respect. A very good book!!

Some useful and absolutely necessary tips for a brand new baby with a brand new dad. If this baby expects to survive, he better begins training his dad in vital aspects like being feed, having baths, having diapers changed, and a well deserved sleep time!

The story is humorous and sweet, and the illustrations are amazingly colorful. There's a companion book, A Baby's Guide to Surviving Mom, that I expect to read soon.

This was a cute little book - most likely for expectant fathers - that tells babies how to train dad best (by giving him lots and lots of practice at diaper changing, feeding, and playtime!)

I can't exactly say why, but I absolutely loved the the illustrations - perhaps it was the bold colors or the minimalist design or the great expressions on the characters. They were great!

I really liked the illustrations in this book. The story is simple, make sure dad knows that some things just happen with dad. I think it would work better as a board book than as a small sized picture book.

Hurray for dad! As an inexperienced young father he bravely steps up to the plate to take his turn with his new baby boy and discovers that maybe this role might be more challenging than he originally anticipated.

Baby realizes that in order for him to survive he will have to teach Dad a thing or two to make that happen. Bring on Baby Nurturing 101! You see Dad's only been a dad as long as Baby has been a baby.... so there may be some lessons to be learned by both!

Dad endlessly changes diapers to perfect the art and he withstands a very messy and gooey food fight with his tot. Baby teaches Dad the difference between playtime and feeding time as they are not the same at all. What about when it comes to bath time? Well best baths are shared aren't they? Come on in dad the water's fine! And don't get me started on sleepy time. Babies, all clean and smelling divine, just drift off peacefully to dreamland when you put them down for the night... no problem? Right?

"Lastly, to stay safe at night, one of you should always stand guard.
Allow him to take the first watch. He's older after all."

Lessons learned? You can't survive without dear old Dad and guess what? The truth is that dear old Dad cannot survive without Baby!

This is a humorous, endearing story about the bonding that takes place between a loving father and his precious little baby son. After the many challenges of guiding his infant through a hectic day Dad finds out that the best part of all is the cuddling and happiness he finds as he rocks his contented little guy to sleep... finally. Heart - to - heart and snore to snore they made it.

This is a trimmed down version of my review, to view the full review visit The Book Ramble.

I received a copy of this book from Capstone on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

This short picture book captures some of the struggles of parenthood in humorous ways and with adorable artwork. The book is told as if the baby is having to teach the dad how to take care of them. I think the trouble with this book is that, while it's adorable and books kid friendly, I'm not really sure that it is. I don't know who the target is for this book, and I think that is kind of an issue.

The book goes through a number of rules for Dad. I thought these were cute, things like changing diapers and feeding, and the imagery was really excellent. Tiago Americo provides adorable illustrations for these books that I would love to see more of in the future. I thought the whole premise of teaching dad the rules was cute, but that's where the issue of who is this book for really starts to build.

The book reads like it's for adults more than for kids. The jokes are definitely aimed at parents. I could see this kind of lingering between kids, parenting, and humour shelves in stores, and that will really make the book suffer. I feel like this is being marketed as being a kids book, but the humour just isn't on the level for kids. The jokes are parent jokes. Sure the book looks like it's for kids but it certainly isn't.

I think it's an adorable little humour book, but I just felt the lack of clear target demographic is kind of troubling.

Title: A Baby's Guide to Surviving Dad

Author: Benjamin Bird

Genre: Children, Humor, Parenting, Soft Cover

Plot: You're a brand new baby and need others to survive. Unfortunately, Dad is just as new as you are, so you'll need to teach him a few things. To survive Dad, it's best to just train him n the big areas that he needs to know about and take the second watch at night. Who knew that being a baby would be so much work?

A cute easy to hold soft cover book that children will enjoy, this book is wonderfully unique and fresh, the prefect gift for new dads everywhere.

Likes/Dislikes: I loved all the colors in this book and the simple wording was fun to read out loud. The dad in the book looks a little hipster-modern which my husband doesn't look like, but I don't think this bothered our daughter very much. I gave her the book {she's almost two} and she had a lot of fun looking at it and made me read it to her half a dozen times. It's a good size for her to hold but it's a little tricky for her to turn the thin glossy pages. I noticed that it's about babies but the age recommendation is for three-to-five year olds. I can't wait to read the mommy book!

Rating: G- all ages. Highly recommended!

I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

Since welcoming our daughter into our life in April, I have been reading many many kid books and preparing her a small library. I am happy to announce that this one WILL indeed be joining the list of books that are happily sat upon her little shelf. It is already over flowing with my favorites (The Hungry Caterpillar, Guess How Much I Love You, The Rainbow Fish, Where the Wild Things Are, ect…) and I am happy to add some newer books to the shelf that I think she will enjoy.

This book was aimed at dads (maybe even dad’s to be), but even as a mom I enjoyed it. [There is also another book coming out called A Baby’s Guide to Surviving Mom by the same Benjamin Bird that I am also going to be getting for our little princess, but alas, this is not a review about that.] The book had me smiling from beginning to end and was full of wonderful illustrations that are adorable, bold and they please the eye. The story line was adorable and it is one that we, as a family, enjoyed. I can’t wait until she is old enough to enjoy, and laugh about it with us. I especially enjoyed lessons one and two.

To those interested in A Baby’s Guide to Surviving Mom, it also comes out on February 1st, 2016.

There are baby books galore, just not for the baby. Surviving Dad is a humorous attempt to bridge the gap. Surviving Dad is funny. The narrator speaks directly to the baby, who can be any baby. There are six related skills baby needs to teach dad.

“Number One: Changing Time
“When you grow up, people will tell you, ‘Practice makes perfect.’ This is true.
“Give your dad practice. Lots and lots of practice . . . ”

The illustrations enhance the text perfectly. Baby and dad are happily in the middle of a diaper change, but when, on the next page, the narrator emphasizes, “Lots and lots of practice . . . ” dad looks overwhelmed, while changing his son’s diaper for what looks like the gazillionth time. Baby happily smiles. Skill Number Two . . .

A Baby’s Guide to Surviving Dad
Benjamin Bird
Picture Book

Review: A new baby is born and as such it knows nothing of the world around it or the people in it, including his dad. The narrator of this story teaches the baby how to handle life and dad. Now both the baby and his dad have to survive each other.
I loved this story so much. It was so funny and I found myself laughing at every turn. This story describes my life right now perfectly, even though I am a mother not a father. Also the illustrations are great and just add to the story. Watching the father’s facial expressions as he goes through all the joys of raising a child was great.
I recommend this story to both moms and dads of infants. Especially, those who may be a little stressed from having a new little one. This story will give them a much needed laugh.

I received this ebook from Netgalley for my honest opinion.

Hmmm... I'm not sure about this one.

Things I love: Adorable illustrations... They're fun and have a chunky more digital design style that I found appealing.

Things to ponder: Target audience is children, but...

My opinion: This is a book to teach babies to teach dad's how to "adult" for them. It's actually very humorous and pretty spot on. I think it works better as a book for new parents. They're going to need the laugh when they realize what they've gotten themselves into!

A super-sweet little story for new dads. A new little baby depends on others to help him survive. Unfortunately, dad's only been a dad as long as the baby's been born! He's going to need some training on the basics. From changing diapers to playtime vs. feeding time, cute hipster dad learns the ropes.

I loved the bright illustrations and the cute baby and dad depicted. Would make a sweet baby shower gift for an expectant father.

I wish I had bought a copy of this book to give my son who is a stay at home dad before his son was born. It is a humourous account of what a father needs to know in order to safely raise a baby. I recommend this book to soon to be parents. The illustrations are just a humourous as the text.

This is a humorous book. Not sure how much a baby gets out of it unless it is read with alot of ethusiasm, which can be done. Excellent book for new fathers. I like the illustrations, they kinda have a nostalgic feel to them. That's it baby, tell him how it's done! Reviewed through NetGalley for an honest review.

Cutest book ever - loved the line that said unfortunately for Baby, Dad has only been a dad for as long as Baby has been a baby. The illustrations are spot-on, the expressions on the dad's face often hilarious.
