Three years after we first spied the prototype, the zec00 electric motorcycle is finally ready for the road. Production of the radically-designed, handmade motorcycle is limited to a run of only 49 vehicles.

Compared to the prototypes, first seen back in 2012, the production zec00 has gained the obligatory front and rear lights as well as a rear number plate. Power still comes from an 11.4 kWh lithium ion battery, powering a 50 kW, 144 Nm Zero Motorcycles-sourced electric motor.

This package delivers a top speed of 160 km/h (99 mph) and a maximum range of 160 km (99 mi), while a full recharge takes 8 hours.

The polished aluminum alloy swing arms, single-sided hub-center steering and the ability to customize the paintwork add to the low-riding, long-nosed bike's outlandish appearance.

Having seen it in the flesh recently in Tokyo, we can attest to the fact that this is an amazing looking machine.

The zec00 is available from this month for JPY 8,880,000 or US$72,530. Check it out in the video below.

I think Zero uses the Cedric Lynch designed Agni motor since 2011. The motors partly rose to fame after their 2009 IoM zero TT win. The documentary "Charge" on NF covers the motor, Cedric Lynch, and the first couple years of TT Zero. I recommend it for people who are into electric bikes.

Wow is that one ugly bike, the seat should be a office chair. all the weight of the suspension is on one side. you need shin protectors on when walking around the bike. Who thinks of things like this, what a joke. I see now, the taillight is the actual anti slip seat.

it looks pretty nice but at $73K I'll have to pass.

Seems pretty slow and heavy in the steering department. Not surprising given the wheelbase. The rider doesn't look all that comfortable in some of those slower turns.....

I like Zero Motorcycles but this thing is just... Why? Yes i understand some people have more money than brains or even taste for that matter; But lets face it at 99 mile range what are you going to use it for? It's way too expensive for a daily ride to work! Unless you have so much money that all you want is to be able to tell your friends you have one... (no offence Jay Leno) The common working class have no use for it except maybe to point and tell their friends that idiot has more money than.... well you get my point! C.

Surprised nobody's made an "Akira" reference yet. Might've been interesting if it weren't so slow. And expensive. And short-ranged. And expensive. And it costs too much.

The price is outrageous. You can buy an LS218 for half that and it will blow it out of the water.
