Quick Thoughts

Today could be a good day to use your Dell coupon book credits since you’ll have the chance to earn an extra 10% back or 10 Membership Rewards points per dollar spent on top of possibly qualifying for a statement credit if you use a card that offers credits for Dell purchases.

Do keep in mind that you should check store terms carefully. For instance, Dell often offers different cash back rates for different categories (such as laptops vs accessories vs servers), but today all of the categories are at 10% back / 10x at Dell. However, Hotels.com is listed in the screen shot above at “Up to 10% back”. That’s accurate, but potentially misleading when grouped in with actual 10%-back stores since Hotels.com is only offering 10% on on hotels in 3 markets — Los Angeles, Miami, and Orlando — and 2% back everywhere else in the world. Other relevant examples include Expedia, which is offering 10% back on hotels but poor rates on experiences and TripAdvisor, which is offering 10% back on experiences and poor rates on hotels.

Note that LifeLock is back up to 95% back again, which could be of interest for those looking to generate some Membership Rewards points at moderate cash cost + the headaches associated with cancelling.

Overall, the increased rates do create some good deals, but don’t forget to use a tool like Cashbackmonitor.com to compare rates. Also, don’t forget to check Capital One Shopping for targeted offers. I found 12% back on a few categories at Dell (including monitors and accessories), but YMMV as to what you see and whether it is comparable or better.

Received a targeted 24% back on Dell via email. Seems too good to be true, but we’ll see. Used in conjunction with Amex Platinum Dell credit.
