Securing American Agriculture Act introduced in U.S. House

A new bill in the U.S. House aims to protect the American food and agriculture supply chain from the influence of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP).

Congresswoman Ashley Hinson says the Securing American Agriculture Act would protect farmers’ access to critical inputs that help them raise their crops and livestock. “In recent years, though, we’ve seen China capture a significant market share to produce critical agricultural inputs like vitamins, veterinary pharmaceuticals, and crop protection tools.”

During a press call Thursday, the Iowa Republican said China’s influence on food production and the U.S. supply chain is a threat to national security. “Should there be a conflict with China in the future, they could weaponize these dependencies against American farmers.”

Michigan Democrat Elissa Slotkin is helping co-author the legislation. The bill has been supported by the American Feed Industry Association.
