Rep. Nunn discusses farm bill delays, remains optimistic

U.S. Congressman Zach Nunn says he’s concerned about the lack of movement on the next farm bill.

“What I don’t want to see is a farm bill that potentially could expire 60 days before a presidential election. D.C. doesn’t get a lot done on a good day. I can’t imagine what it would not be able to get done 60 days before the election.”

The Iowa Republican tells Brownfield lawmakers need to avoid cuts to critical farm safety net programs. “Farm bills are something we take very seriously. This is going to be potentially the largest farm bill in U.S. history, $1.5 trillion going to help grow and feed the entire area.”

Nunn says House Ag Committee Chairman Glenn “GT” Thompson has provided strong leadership throughout negotiations. “There are a number of things that we’re getting closer to, and that means doing a committee markup and approval here this May.” The current farm bill extension expires at the end of September.
