Planting nearly finished in southern Ohio

The Chairman of the Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association says he’s a solid five days away from finishing planting.

Clarksville fifth-generation farmer John Settlemyre tells Brownfield conditions this past week have been ideal.

“The temperatures were getting up in the 80s, ground conditions were wonderful, nice and dry,” he says. “We got a lot of work done, I’d say most of the corn is in the ground here, and probably half of the beans are in the ground.”

Settlemyre says his season is running about two weeks ahead of last year, but increased chances of rain the rest of this week are slowing down progress.

Brownfield interviews Settlemyre on his growing season and the impact the Farm to Fly Act could have in the farm bill.
