Wisconsin storms bring mixed crop results

Wisconsin’s storms brought both relief and damage to crops last week.  USDA reporters say the thirsty crops benefited from the storms in most areas, but more than 10 inches fell in parts of Dana County, flooding many fields.  For some farmers, the rain was too late to save their crops and the damaged corn was chopped for silage.

Soil moisture levels are now 75% adequate and 5% surplus.

Almost 75% of corn is in the dough stage with 36% dented.  Soybeans are 6 days ahead of last year with 94% setting pods and some soybeans dropping leaves.

The potato harvest is 20% finished.  The third crop of alfalfa hay is 85% cut, and some farmers are cutting 4th crop hay.

Reporters in Burnett, Washburn counties of northwestern Wisconsin have seen a lot of white mold in soybeans.
