Wisconsin honey production jumps 48%

Wisconsin’s honey producers had a much more productive 2022 than in 2021.  USDA’s National Ag Statistics Service says honey producers with five or more colonies produced 2.92 million pounds of honey last year, far ahead of 2021’s 1.97 million pounds.

USDA also says Wisconsin had more bees in 2022 with 53-thousand colonies, 11 thousand more than the previous year.

Yield per colony was also up from 47 pounds in 2021 to 55 pounds in 2022.

Wisconsin ranks 11th nationally in honey production with 816-thousand pounds of honey valued at over 8.86 million dollars.  The average price per pound of honey in Wisconsin was $3.04, down five cents from 2021.
