Varying moisture across Iowa affecting crops

Flood related nutrient loss and crop damage is a concern in the northern two thirds of Iowa, but subsoil moisture in the southern third of the state is less than 30 percent adequate to surplus.

Corn silking is at 88 percent, 27 percentage points ahead of the five-year average. The crop is 79 percent good to excellent as of Sunday.

Eighty-one percent of soybeans are blooming and 40 percent are setting pods, 15 percentage points ahead of the average.  Iowa soybeans are 76 percent good to excellent.

Ninety percent of oats are turning color with 35 percent harvested. The crop is rated 77 percent good to excellent.

The second cutting of alfalfa hay is 86 percent complete.  Iowa Hay is rated 69 percent good to excellent.
