U.S. cheese production up in July

The USDA’s latest Dairy Product Production report shows cheese production is going up while butter and sour cream production is going down.

The report says Cheddar production in July was more than 336-million pounds, about 23-million pounds more than June and 28-million pounds more than July of 2017.  Gains were also reported for Blue, Gorgonzola, Brick, Muenster, Cream, Feta, and Gouda cheeses as well as all Italian types.

Butter production for July was just over 136-million pounds, down from around 142-million pounds in June but slightly more than July of 2017.

The USDA says other American-style cheeses had lower production, and volumes for frozen products like ice cream, yogurt, and sherbet were also lower in July.
