The secret to triple digit soybean yields

An Arkansas farmer says he’s figured out the secret to 100-bushel soybeans.

Matt Miles of McGehee (mick-gee) in southeast Arkansas grows corn, cotton, rice, and for the last four years, 100-bushel soybeans.  Speaking to Brownfield on the eve of the Ag Phd Field Day near Baltic, South Dakota, Miles says the key to achieving those yields lies in reducing crop stress.

“Being timely on your inputs, variety selection, proper drainage, fertility, and putting all those together and putting the inputs there at the right time.”

He says 2019 has been challenging from a weather standpoint, but Miles is confident his streak of triple digit soybean yields will continue.

“Most of that depends on the weather during the fruiting stage, from R1 to R5. If we have milder summer weather, then we’ve still got a really good chance of doing that.”

Miles says his soybeans look good, and could be better than last year.
