Missouri State Fair Swine Barn, other facilities see improvements

There are improvements to the Missouri State Fairgrounds this year.  The updates were possible through the generosity of long-time livestock exhibitors.

The State Fair Swine Barn retains it’s 1927 architectural significance and historical appearance, but is sporting new handicapped-accessible bleachers, a new superintendent’s office, a new wash rack and more.  Swine Superintendent JR Reid is rightfully proud.

“What a God’s blessing it’s been with the Foundation and all my swine family here that has come to put this money together,” Reid told Brownfield Ag News at the State Fair Swine Barn Thursday.

The improvements were funded with help from exhibitor families who wrote checks and raised funds to cover the improvements.  Missouri State Fair Foundation Executive Director Wendy Loges has difficulty containing her emotions when she’s characterizing exhibitor generosity.

“We shouldn’t have been surprised, because family takes care of family,” Loges told Brownfield.  “That’s what people in this barn have been doing for generations, and they just showed it in a different way.”

Additional improvements have been made in the sheep, cattle and horse barns with more planned for the future.

  • So glad to see all these improvements. Maybe now they can see about fixing up the 4-H building. We were rather appalled to see the structural cracks around the windows inside, especially around the windows.
