South Dakota Governor Noem pushes for USMCA ratification

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem says she and other farm state governors are pushing federal lawmakers to ratify the U.S. Mexico Canada Trade Agreement. Speaking Thursday at the Governor’s Ag Summit in Sioux Falls, Noem said the agreement – a modernization of NAFTA – is a big victory for agriculture, but it’s a huge victory for dairy.

“With the more invest that we have in South Dakota in dairy it’s critically important that we level those playing fields, give us more access to markets where we haven’t been treated fairly and get it across the finish line going forward,” said Noem, addressing the summit.

The summit culminated with the South Dakota Ag Ambassador Award being presented to Lake Preston, South Dakota farmer Paul Casper, who was instrumental in the founding of South Dakota Soybean Processors, a major soybean processing plant in the state.
