Senator says there is a short window to address tariffs
An Indiana senator says there is a very short window to address tariffs and the negative impact they have on farmers as harvest approaches.
Joe Donnelly says he spoke with President Trump about those concerns on Thursday.
“We’ve seen about a 20 percent drop in soybean prices in just about two months and I said Mr. President we have a crop coming in the bin around October and we need to get this resolved,” he says.
He tells Brownfield farmers are concerned about long-term market losses.
“Once you turn away from a supplier and somebody else is taking care of you, you’re not in any hurry to go back,” he says.
He says he remains hopeful that trade disputes will be resolved, and prices will return to what they were.
Donnelly spoke at a shop talk event in Terre Haute, Indiana, by the Indiana Corn Growers Association and Indiana Soybean Alliance.
