National Farmers Union believes Biden moves will help “smooth out” supply chain

The National Farmers Union is encouraged by steps taken by the Biden administration to confront supply chain problems and rising input costs.

NFU vice president of advocacy Mike Stranz tells Brownfield President Biden’s announcement to expand double cropping insurance and invest in domestic fertilizer production comes at a time of unprecedented disruptions.

“There’s a lot going on right now in the supply chain, and some of these moves will help to smooth that out and make the market both more competitive and more functional for farmers across the country.”

He says expanding the number of counties eligible for double cropping insurance is a good move.

“I don’t think anyone can say this is a silver bullet to the situation right now, but it can help boost some of the supplies and get some more acres in. Especially as we’re likely to see some shortfalls in the marketplace it seems with some of the latest projections.”

National Farmers Union president Rob Larew calls the Biden administration’s promise to double down on USDA efforts to diversify domestic fertilizer markets promising and says NFU looks forward to providing input on how to do it most effectively.
