MU Extension fans out to help with flood issues

The University of Missouri Extension is working with the state and county governments to help with flood relief, which is focused right now in northwest Missouri, “To make sure that we are providing the resources. People need to know who to go to to talk to; how do we get people relocated. We have people literally doing that right now in some of these communities.”

Marshall Stewart is Vice Chancellor of Extension & Engagement and tells Brownfield they have a program in place for emergencies like flooding, “We have a network that’s in place that goes to work and so people actually move from different parts of the state. We have people from this campus that are in northwest Missouri working with other faculty to help figure out these kinds of things. Logistics and other things.”

And the flooding is only going to get worse but he says Extension’s commitment will remain strong, “We’re going to have an issue here for a number of weeks, if not months, in the future. And as we do we’re going to have to figure out how to work with that so it’s not just – it’s northwest right now, but it’s truly that something the whole state is going to have to deal with.”
