More cheese & butter, declining skim milk & dry whey production

The USDA says production of dairy products during January continued to climb for most major categories.

Total cheese production was 1.1 billion pounds, up 0.4 percent from last year and 0.7 percent from December.  Both Italian and American cheese were up more one percent from last year.

Butter production was more than four percent above last year and 10 percent higher than December.

Nonfat dry milk was up nearly eight percent from 2018 and skim milk powder was down more than 33 percent.  Dry whey production was down more than 10 percent.
