MN Farm Bureau president confident China will make good on phase 1 commitments

The president of Minnesota Farm Bureau is confident China will follow through on its commitments in the phase one trade deal.

Kevin Paap attended the signing ceremony at the White House Wednesday and tells Brownfield President Trump made it clear enforcement mechanisms are in place.

“The tariffs are still there to keep (China’s) feet to the fire to make sure that they are following through on their commitment, (and) to make sure we can move from phase one into phase two. That’s still an important part of the negotiations.”

Paap was also encouraged by Chinese trade officials who expressed a willingness to work together.

“To help continually improve both countries, not only the relationship with each other, but our economies.”

Paap calls the phase one deal a significant step forward, but he points out trade agreements take time.
