Minnesota farmer prepared for drawn out corn planting

A southeast Minnesota farmer says the first 15 percent of his corn acres went in nicely.

Brent Mohn of Lakeville has been able to plant around rain showers since the first week of May.

“It was on dryer ground, or to ground that was pattern-tiled.”

He tells Brownfield the remaining 85 percent probably won’t go as smoothly.

“The ground that was waiting to come up next, which is what we’re trying to work on now is heavier ground. That’s going to be the story for the rest of what we farm, so it’s not going to be as good of conditions as what was planted last week.”

Mohn describes the ground they’re working up now as less than ideal, but he says he’d rather plant now than have seed sitting in the shed.
