Minnesota Ag Commissioner on latest storm

Minnesota Ag Commissioner Thom Petersen feels for farmers affected by last week’s storm.

“It’s just been a tough winter, and now beginning a tough spring. Just feeling for our livestock farmers especially who are spring calving, and you see a lot of the power substations in southern Minnesota poles snap.

He tells Brownfield many producers without power are relying on generators.

“A lot of times the public doesn’t realize a lot of the things that farmers spend on infrastructure so that they’re prepared for situations like this. But again, another punch in the gut as we try to get going.”

Petersen says flood concerns will persist throughout the spring, and he’s encouraging producers to reach out to their local FSA office about state and federal disaster assistance.
