IRFA applauds Lower Food and Fuel Costs Act

The executive director of the Iowa Renewable Fuels Association says the Lower Food and Fuel Costs Act, passed by the House last week, is an important step to help increase access to E15.

Monte Shaw says, “Why not do something that is going to help reduce gas prices by giving people the access to higher blends of ethanol that costs less – 10 cents, 15 cents, 30 cents less. No one has to buy it. The bill simply helps it become available.”

Shaw says the legislation also provides $200 million in funding for fuel providers to install biofuels infrastructure.

But, he tells Brownfield he’s skeptical of the bill’s fate in the Senate. “I don’t know if Charles Schumer from New York, the Senate Majority Leader, has as much interest in moving an ag-based bill as we would like,” Shaw said. “But we’re going to work it hard and see what happens.”

All four of Iowa’s congressional representatives supported the legislation.
