Iowa farmer still waiting to plant

Parts of the Midwest are still struggling to start planting.

“We still haven’t been able to take a single box of seed out of the shed yet,” says Laura Cunningham of Nora Springs, Iowa, in the north-central part of the state.

Cunningham says cool conditions in April and wet conditions in May have kept them on the sidelines. But she says, at this point, they’re sticking with their original cropping plan.

“I think it’s still going to pay to wait. Ask me in another couple of weeks, and if we haven’t pulled the seed out of the shed, I might have a different story for you,” she says. “But for now, I think we’re still okay and we’re going to keep doing what we can, when we can, and hope we’re rewarded with some dry days.”

Cunningham spoke with Brownfield Thursday afternoon. North-central Iowa received more rain this morning.
