Hot, dry weather pushes Nebraska’s crops towards maturity

Hot and dry weather over the past week has accelerated the maturity of Nebraska’s crops.

As of Sunday, 44 percent of the state’s corn crop was mature and 64 percent of soybeans were dropping leaves, both well ahead of average. Four percent of corn and three percent of soybeans had been harvested. Twenty-eight percent of the sorghum crop was mature.

Pasture and range conditions rated 79 percent good to excellent.

The planting of winter wheat was 22 percent complete, behind 30 average.
