Hoosier farmer says recent heat has helped crops

A southwest Indiana farmer says his crops are looking good even though the heat index has been above 100 the past several days.

Mark Seib grows corn, soybeans, and wheat.

“We’re not really dry because we have deep moisture, but in the heat of the day you can see just a little bit of that corn curling to protect itself, but we seem to be doing okay on  moisture,” he says.

He tells Brownfield warm conditions have helped push corn emergence forward.

“The corn is a beautiful dark green color and growing-especially since we’ve had warm, warm days-by leaps and bounds,” he says.

Seib says he is concerned about the potential trade war with China.

He says he hopes that farmers can get back to focusing on crop conditions instead of worrying about the impact of tariffs on market prices.
